Full Itinerary

Day 1:  OSLO
Arrive Oslo; collect your rental car at the airport. Sights of interest in Oslo are the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Viking Ship Museum, the Fram Artic Expedition Museum, the City Hall, Akershus fortress, the Kon-Tiki Museum and the Holmenkollen Ski Jump for a panoramic view of the city and the Oslofjord.

Day 2:  OSLO – GEILO (240 km)
Drive through the beautiful Hallingdal Valley to the mountain resort of Geilo. We recommend a visit at Torpo Stave Church in Ål. This church is the oldest building in Hallingdal Valley.

Day 3:  GEILO – HARDANGERFJORD – VOSS (170 km)
After breakfast at the hotel drive across the Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau with its snow-capped mountain peaks. It is highly recommended that one makes a short detour to view the spectacular Vøringsfossen Waterfall measuring 182 metres, before descending down the scenic Måbødalen Valley. In Eidfjord it is suggested that one visit the Hardangervidda Nature Centre (entrance not included). Cross the Eidfjord to the newly opened Hardanger suspension bridge, among the top ten longest in the world spanning 1,310 metres. The journey continues along the scenic Hardanger Fjord, a region famous for its fruit orchards. Just past Norheimsund one could visit Steindalsfossen Waterfall, where you can even walk behind the waterfall. Continue to Bergen, known as the Gateway to the Fjords.

Day 4:  VOSS – (SOGNEFJORD) – BERGEN (95 km)
The Voss region is a perfect starting point for several of Fjord Norway’s most famous excursions; we recommend a trip with the Flåm Railway (Flåm – Myrdal – Flåm). This is a unique railway – the steepest on regular gauge in the world. Ascend the mountains where you will have a wonderful view of waterfalls cascading down the steep snow capped mountains, rivers cutting through deep ravines and small mountain farms clinging to sheer slopes. This amazing trip is the most beautiful train ride in Norway, perhaps in the world. Drive from Voss to Bergen. We recommend the scenic route along the Hardangerfjord.

Day 5:  BERGEN
A day at leisure. The city offers many interesting sights and has a charming city centre. We recommend a walk along the old Hanseatic Harbour and Quarter, and the Fish and Flower Market. A trip with the Fløibanen cable car is also recommended, taking you up to Mount Fløien, Which on a clear day, offers a great view of Bergen and the surrounding fjords. Bergenhus Fortress and Troldhaugen (home of the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg) are also worth a visit.

Day 6:  BERGEN – NORDFJORDEID – ØRSTA (340 km)
Drive from Bergen to Oppedaland take the ferry from Oppedal to Lavik (to be paid on the spot) which will takes you over the Sognefjord. It the world’s longest fjord, stretching 240 km inland. Along the fjord, discover some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery in Norway. Enjoy the beautiful countryside along Lake Jølster and the Nordfjord. Ferry Anda – Lote (to be paid on the spot), and later ferry Folkestad – Volda (to be paid on the spot). Continue to Ørsta, a small town located in the centre of one of the most remarkable mountain ranges in Norway; The Sunnmørs Alps. Here you can enjoy the spectacular scenery and a number of mountain trails.

Day 7:  ØRSTA & SURROUNDING AREAS
We recommend an excursion to the coastal town of Ålesund. Along the old harbour there is a bustling, picturesque fishing port. Take a walk in the charming streets of Ålesund and see the colourful houses in the city centre. Another alternative is a trip to the Briksdal Glacier, part of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier. Glaciers are beautiful, exciting and impressive. They reflect only blue light. It is a quite unique, almost magical light. The glaciers grow and shrink, change direction, shape and colour. The several hundred metre thick ice is in constant motion and the arms of the glacier can grow several hundred meters in only a few years. Europe’s largest mainland glacier is Jostedalsbreen Glacier.

Day 8:  ØRSTA – TROLLSTIGEN – DOMBÅS (350 km)
Start the day with a short ferry crossing from Volda to Folkestad (excluded, to be paid on the spot). Continue via Stryn to Geiranger. The Geiranger Fjord is known as the most beautiful fjord in Norway. From Geiranger, you can take an optional mini-cruise, where you will have the opportunity to see several waterfalls cascading into the fjord. Continue from Geiranger along the “Eagle Road” (Ørneveien). During this ascent you will have a fantastic view of the fjord below. A short ferry crossing from Eidsdal to Linge (excluded, to be paid on the spot). Descend the impressive “Troll Road” (Trollstigen). This mountain road is surrounded by high mountain peaks and deep gorges. After the Troll Road you will pass the Troll Wall, with the highest vertical drop in Europe. Travel through Romsdalen Valley to Dombås.

Day 9:  DOMBÅS – LILLEHAMMER – OSLO (320 km)
Drive south through Gudbrandsdalen Valley to Lillehammer, the 1994 Winter Olympic city. We recommend a visit at Maihaugen Open Air Museum with a collection of houses from this region. Drive along Lake Mjøsa to Hamar and continue to Oslo.
