ITINERARY

Day 1:  HELSINKI
After arriving in Helsinki you will make your own way to your centrally located hotel. Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is situated on the Baltic Sea with a 100-kilometre-long shoreline and surrounded by 300 islands. Helsinki is famous for its urban events, restaurants, bars and nightclubs which make it a vibrant capital with many cultural offerings ranging from punk rock to classical and contemporary art.

Day 2:  HELSINKI
Today will be entirely at your leisure. If you are in Helsinki around Christmas then the Seurasaari Christmas Path is a pre-Christmas event for families with children not to be missed. It gives children and the young at heart the possibility to have a look into the world of fairytales and to learn old Finnish Christmas traditions. The path offers around 30 activities filled with Christmas spirit, and of course such an experience would not be complete without a chance to see Father Christmas and Mrs. Claus so they will also be present. We also suggest a visit to St Thomas Market (December). This annual Christmas event takes place at the beautiful Senate Square, with over 120 booths selling everything from handicrafts to canned foods for the Christmas table. You can stroll among the booths and enjoy the old-fashioned Christmas atmosphere and watch the artisans at their work. Or of course Helsinki also offers plenty to those interested in more neutral activities such as Museums, historic monuments to visit, shopping opportunities and so much more.

Day 3:  HELSINKI – IVALO – KAKSLAUTTANEN
After breakfast you will make you own way to Helsinki Airport for the flight to Ivalo (not included). On arrival in Ivalo you will be transferred to Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort. At this point the remainder of the day will be at your leisure.  Your accommodation for tonight will be a little unusual; the glass igloo provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to admire the northern lights and the millions of stars in the crystal clear sky in comfort. Built from special thermal glass the temperature inside the igloo always stays warm and the glass has also been specially made to prevent it from getting frosted over keeping the view clear even when the temperature outside drops to under 30 degrees. Every igloo is equipped with a toilet and luxury beds.

Day 4:  KAKSLAUTTANEN – SAARISELKA – KAKSLAUTTANEN
This morning you will be able to enjoy a snowmobile safari which will take you to the small ski village of Saariselka situated approximately ten kilometers away. You will first be given instructions on how to handle the snowmobile and some safety precautions to observe, before heading off. You will drive up to the beautiful Kaunispaa fell, 436m above sea level, at the top of which you will be able to enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding area below. The trail will then continue through the beautiful & mystical forest as you get a taste of Finnish Lapland. This excursion will include a coffee break and the use of the required equipment and thermal clothing. After returning to the resort the rest of the day will then be at your leisure.

Day 5:  KAKSLAUTTANEN
Saariselka has frequently been ranked as one of the world’s best cross-country skiing destinations. The diverse network of ski tracks here runs for almost 200 km of which 20km are even illuminated. So for today rental of cross-country ski equipment has been included and you can get going straight from your cabin on your own personal winter adventure.

Day 6:  KAKSLAUTTANEN
Today will be entirely at your leisure. You could simply relax in the warmth inside or perhaps rent yourself some skis and continue exploring the surrounding area. And then there are still many activities on offer here that you have not experienced yet and could additionally book such as a reindeer safari or hunting the Lights in a snow tank to name just two.

Day 7:  KAKSLAUTTANEN
After breakfast you will be transferred from Kakslauttanen to Ivalo Airport.  (B)

Rates

Includes: 6 nights’ accommodation including one night in a glass igloo, return shuttle transfers in Ivalo, snowmobile safari, cross-country ski rental, meals as shown (B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner)

Note: Obligatory supplements will apply for stays over Christmas and New Year, should your stay include either period please contact us for amended rates. In addition no excursions will operate on Christmas and New Year’s Days.
Children are persons under the age of 12 years at time of travel. Room with additional sofa bed. Children are passengers in a sled on tours.

All rates will be converted at time of final payment according to ITT’s bank selling rates. Please double check the final ZAR amount with us on day of payment.
