Your city break combines time to relax with guided tours that guarantee you won’t miss a thing. Among these is our Reykjavik Food Walk – the perfect introduction to the city’s landmarks. On this small group walking tour, you will discover the charming city center and sample delicious Icelandic taste treats. You’ll also visit the world-famous wonders of the Golden Circle and dip into a relaxing local hot spring-fed pool
Day 1: ARRIVAL
Welcome to the World’s Northernmost Capital City
Pick up the car at the airport, make sure you receive the travel companion app with your rental car and you will be ready to start your Iceland experience. If your flight arrives early in the day, you may wish to stop at the Blue Lagoon (a short distance from the airport) for a chance to relax in the soothing geothermal mineral waters (this has to be requested and pre-booked as admission is limited). Important: Please note check-in for most hotels begins at 14:00 – 16:00 (2:00pm-4:00pm)
Overnight: Reykjavik
Day 2: REYKJAVIK FOOD WALK
Reykjavik Culinary Walking tour
After breakfast complete check out procedures. Today you’ll meet up with your local guide outside Harpa Music Hall. Please note transfer from your hotel to Harpa is not included. The food and culture walk is led by a fun and knowledgeable local guide who’ll take you to the famous sites in Reykjavik, including Harpa, Hallgrimskirkja Church and the City Hall. You’ll also visit culinary places from well-known restaurants to small family- run businesses and secret local hangouts in Reykjavik. You’ll taste delicious cuisine we Icelanders love such as an Icelandic hot dog (pylsa), traditional Icelandic meat soup, homemade Icelandic ice cream from a secret family recipe and, of course, skyr (a healthy dairy product similar to Greek yogurt). This is a small group experience where you’ll explore the local side of Reykjavik, meet hard-working families, hear fascinating stories, visit innovative restaurants and experience age-old traditions. The afternoon and evening are open for your own activities. We suggest a visit to one of the many museums or art galleries around the city. Some recommendations include the Wonders of Iceland interactive museum at Perlan, the Reykjavik Art Museum and The Settlement Exhibition that includes the excavated remains of a Viking longhouse. Another activity is the fun (and delicious) Meet the Locals evening where you enjoy a three-course Icelandic dinner and learn about Icelandic history and culture in a fun way. We’re happy to make recommendations and book admission for you.
Overnight: Reykjavik (B)
Day 3: GOLDEN CIRCLE AND THE SECRET LAGOON
Secret Lagoon – Gullfoss – Geysir – Thingvellir National Park
After breakfast complete check out procedures. Today we’ve planned for you to travel out of the city and into the Icelandic countryside so you can experience our beloved Golden Circle region. Begin the tour with a leisurely soak in the Secret Lagoon, one of the oldest natural geothermal pools in Iceland. The pool is nestled among bubbling hot springs and a small erupting geyser. Steam rises from the surrounding geothermal area as you relax in the warm mineral-rich water, with a temperature of 38 – 40°C (100 – 104°F) year-round. The little geyser near the pool erupts every few minutes, lending an exotic backdrop to your visit. We definitely recommend taking a walk on the footpath around the pool so you can get a closer view of the area’s bubbling geothermal features. Then drive to the Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur Valley with many bubbling pools and spouting geysers. Continue to Gullfoss, the ‘Golden Waterfall’, the most famous of the country’s many waterfalls. Here the river Hvita drops 96 feet (30 meters) in two falls, creating an awesome spectacle. Then onward to the historic and geological wonder of Thingvellir National Park, the heart and soul of our Icelandic heritage, and we are glad for you to experience it. You will see where our Viking ancestors first met and founded our nation (and the world’s oldest continuous Parliament). You can also take a walk through a canyon that is the meeting point of the North American and European tectonic plates. The area is surrounded by mountains, a vast lava plain and Iceland’s largest lake; it’s a beautiful setting for a panoramic photo.
