Zimbabwe Travel & Tours - Boabab Adventure

The highlights include: visits to the mysterious Great Zimbabwe Ruins, Lake Kariba, the famous Victoria Falls, Hwange and Matobos National Parks and sightings of large wildlife (elephant and buffalo) from a canoe on the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi Valley.

Day 1
Early morning departure from Johannesburg, and travel via the great north road to install our camp at the Bubye River Camp in Zimbabwe. (Lunch & dinner).

Day 2
We visit the mysterious ruins of Great Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe means "House of Stone". The stone structures are the largest ancient man-made buildings south of the Sahara. There are few places in Africa with a more impressive atmosphere.

Day 3
Lake Kariba is the second largest man-made lake in the world, and is 280km long and 32km wide at its maximum width and covers 5 000km2. The dam wall was built at the entrance of the gorge and called Kariba (little trap) by the local tribe.

Day 4
We enter Zambia via the Kariba Dam wall and arrive at Kiambi Camp in the early afternoon.

Day 5 & 6
We board our canoes for the 3 day excursion on the Zambezi River. Whilst paddling down the gentle current of the river, we relax and enjoy the game and birdlife at close quarters. The harmonious interaction of species is combined with a profound sense of peace and tranquillity.

Day 7
We return to Kiambi Camp. The camp has a superb view over the Zambezi and Kafue Rivers.

Day 8 & 9
The Victoria Falls is without doubt one of the greatest and most spectacular sights in Africa, where the waters of the mighty Zambezi River tumble down in continuous thunder. Various optional excursions are available; a flight over the falls, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River or white water river rafting. Days spent at leisure. (All meals excluding 1 dinner)

Day 10 & 11
This great national park of 14 650km2, is one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa. It is home to over 400 species of birds and 107 species of animals including buffalo, rhino, lion, antelope and vast herds of elephant. From observation platforms situated at the waterholes, we can watch an endless procession of game coming to drink and bathe.

Day 12
The wind sculptured granite hills, domed rock castles and bushman painted caves add to the unique atmosphere and beauty of the park. Cecil Rhodes, who is buried on a summit of these gigantic rock masses, regarded the Matobos as one of the world's most scenic points.

Day 13
The name Tshipise is a Venda word meaning “hot spring”. The hot spring (65°C) flows into 3 separate swimming pools surrounded by fine natural parkland of acacia and baobab trees.

Day 14
We return to Johannesburg at +-16h00. (Breakfast & lunch).
