We have a selection of self-catering cottages for rent. Some are located in inland areas with easy access to fishing and hiking terrain; others are located on the coast and are ideal for fishing, kayaking and enjoying Norway’s unique “skjærgård” (coastline archipelago). Here are just three of the many cottages available:
Galten Gård
Galten Gård is located in Femundsmarka (3 hours drive from Oslo) – a natural area with countless lakes and streams with trout, char, grayling, freshwater herring, pike and perch. With one fishing permit, you can fish in over 800 lakes, pools, rivers, brooks and streams. Femundsmarka is one of the largest continuous “wilderness” areas in Scandinavia.
Galten Farm is 300m from Galt Lake and has
hosted both national and international sportsfishers for generations. It is near
well-known fishing spots like the protected Femund River/Trysil River; Galtstrømmen with its abundance of fish, the renowned Ister Falls and many other lakes and rivers. Ideal for hiking, there are excellent chances of finding your own “untouched” spot and experiencing a fantastic fishing adventure in sparkling lakes and rivers. There is also a horse-riding centre within 30km of the farm.

Bakkevik Brygge

The main activity is fishing and there are several good spots. The surroundings also offer hiking in the mountains or swimming at Grotlesanden, which is one of Norway’s finest beaches (although the water is cold!). Gardsøya Rorbuer
Gardsøya Rorbuer is situated in idyllic surroundings on the island Kirkøya, this is
also the “gate” to the World Heritage area. With high standard accommodation in time
for the 2008 season, there is a new service building and a separate launch area for the Øien boats. Fishing on Vega is very good, and provides great challenges and opportunities for cod, pollack, Norway haddock, wolf fish
and halibut fishing. An ideal location to go kayaking, with access to many small islands which offer protected paddling and easy navigation. The views are spectacular, and it
is a wonderful way to interact more closely with the outstanding natural environment.
Vega and Gardsøya also offer hiking trails with routes of varying lengths and elevations that will suit everyone. There is a Great Cormorant colony on Nordvær. You can visit Hysvær by boat, where there is a restaurant in the summer.
An island cruise will take you on various tours of archipelago, each day is a different tour. This area has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site because of the special landscape of the islands as well as the eider duck population. We suggest a visit the eider duck museum, the Vegstein Trading Post or Fornminnestein (historical monument trail), a 3km trail through an area of archaeological excavations.
