Itinerary:
DAY 1: OSLO – BODØ – HURTIGRUTEN COASTAL VOYAGE
Depart by flight from Oslo to Bodø. Own transfer from the airport to the quay. Embark your Hurtigruten vessel in the afternoon. Gliding through the archipelago, you cross the Vestfjord and see the 100 km long Lofoten mountain range rising from the sea. This jagged mountain range shelters many fishing stations, including Svolvær. Our ship will make a one-hour stop in Svolvær and we recommend that you take a walk along the quays and see the distinctive, sheer rock formation of the “Svolvær Goat”.
Overnight: Hurtigruten (D)
DAY 2: TROMSØ
During the night you have reached the town of Harstad and if you are an early riser, you can spend an hour in this beautiful town. We continue north and in the early afternoon we reach the capital of Northern Norway, Tromsø, which occupies a unique position between the sea and imposing mountains. The city is often referred to as the gateway to the Arctic, not least due to its historic links to polar research and expeditions which has set out from Tromsø. On your sightseeing tour you will be visiting the Polar Centre. Here you will find information about arctic nature, flora and fauna, ice, seals and the Northern Lights. You will also visit the Arctic Cathedral, its architecture inspired by the Arctic sea. In the evening, cruise towards the North Cape. In the summer, weather permitting, the midnight sun will shine as you sail north.
Overnight: Hurtigruten (BD)
DAY 3: NORTH CAPE – HONNINGSVÅG
If you are up at crack of dawn, you will be able to enjoy the departure from Hammerfest, the world’s northernmost town. Continue east to Honningsvåg, and after disembarking from our ship, we join an excursion to the North Cape. Travel by coach towards 71º north. Reindeer can often be seen grazing along the road and you will also be passing a small Sami camp. The North Cape itself rises 307 m out of the icy ocean. This is the northern-most point of the European continent. At the North Cape Hall experience centre you can enjoy wide-screen films about North Cape and the county of Finnmark. Return to Honningsvåg, balance of day at leisure.
Overnight: Rica Bryggen Hotel, Honningsvåg. (B)
DAY 4: HONNINGSVÅG – ALTA - OSLO
Travel by bus along the Porsangerfjord and over Sennalandet Mountain Plateau, to Alta. This is the commercial centre of the Norwegian Sami people. Depart by flight to Oslo. (B)
