2: COIMBRA - AVEIRO - OPORTO
Leave Coimbra and drive north along the coast to Aveiro . Suggest
take some time to walk around in this town which is criss-crossed
by canals and which also has some outstanding monumental buildings.
Continue north and arrive in Oporto .

3: OPORTO
A day at leisure in Oporto . Walk through this medieval town
and enjoy the special atmosphere. Alternatively, take a cruise
on the Douro river, or visit a winery where the authentic Port
wine is produced.

4: OPORTO - GUARDA
Head inland and south from Porto, and drive through some of
Portugal's wine-producing areas. Villages dot the landscape
and a slow drive through this area is how we recommend you spend
this day. Arrive in Guarda .

5: GUARDA - CASTELO BRANCO - CASTELO DE VIDE - EVORA
Continue south, suggest stop in the town of Castelo Branco to
see the gardens of the Episcopal Palace. Continue via Castelo
de Vide , a traditional village of the Alentejo region which
was an important Jewish centre in the 14th century. Arrive in
Evora , a city on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Cities.

6: EVORA
Evora traces its origins back to the Roman period and during
its heyday in the 15th and 16th centuries, Evora was the chosen
city of residence by the Portuguese kings. It is an architectural
treasure-trove and a walking tour through the city will be well
rewarded.

7: EVORA - LISBON
Depart Evora and we suggest you drive via Arraiolos , a town
with narrow streets, white-washed houses and lots of charm.
Arraiolos is also known for its hand-knotted carpets. Continue
to Lisbon, and hand back your rental car at the airport. (B)
