Greece
One’s
mind tends to wander to the islands, sea, blue skies and small
white houses when referring to Greece.
It’s a land of inexhaustible beauty all year round.
Greece
is a peninsular and mountainous country. It is located in Southern
Europe and is surrounded by the Aegean, the Ionian and the Mediterranean
Sea. It is the most oriental country of Europe and is characterised
by its unique beauty and charm. Millions of visitors spend their
holidays in Greece.
It
is a country that has much to offer to the visitors: paradisiacal
landscapes, hundreds of charming islands, amazing sandy beaches
in crystal waters, a passionate history… which can be
explored on Greece’s Islands or capital city Athens.
The
Greek coast in Greece has a total length of approximately 16,000 km. What
characterises the famous Greek coasts is their unique diversity
(beaches stretching over many kilometres, small bays and coves,
sandy beaches with dunes, pebbly shores, coastal caves surrounded
by steep rocks and with the characteristic dark sand of volcanic
soils, coastal wetlands), their clean and transparent waters
which have made them renowned all over the world and, for this
reason, extremely popular.
The
islands are Greece’s chief morphological trait (Mykonos,
Santorini, Paros,
Skiathos, Skopelos,
Rhodes & Kos –
to name a few) and an integral part of the country’s civilisation
and tradition. The Greek territory in Greece comprises 6,000 islands and
islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Sea, a truly unique
phenomenon on the European continent; of these islands only
227 are inhabited.
