The highlights include: Five African countries; tribal life; the Makgadikgadi Pans and Chobe River in Botswana; two days in Victoria Falls; the thrill of canoeing the shores of Zambezi River; safari drives in South Luangwa National Park; camping on the shores of Lake Malawi; Mount Mulanje hike; the tropical beaches of Mozambique and the renowned Kruger National Park.

Day 1
Early morning departure from Johannesburg and travel via Ellisras to Martin’s Drift, near the Botswana border.

Day 2
We cross the border into Botswana and travel north via Francistown to Nata. The pans are dry most of the year, except during the rainy season (Dec – Mar). If accessible we will drive to the edge of the pans to experience the spectacular sunset.

Day 3
Chobe is famous for its beautiful scenery and magnificent sunsets. In the evening we may see the herds of elephant drinking at the river during our afternoon cruise.

Day 4 & 5
The Victoria Falls is without doubt one of the greatest and most spectacular sights in Africa, where the waters of the mighty Zambezi River tumble down in continuous thunder. It is known as Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning “the Smoke that Thunders”. Days spent at leisure for optional excursions. (All meals excluding 1 dinner).

Day 6
We travel through Zambia to set up our camp on the banks of the Zambezi River at Lower Zambezi River Camp. Visit to a typical African village.

Day 7 & 8
We board our canoes for a 2-day excursion on the Zambezi River. Whilst paddling down with the gentle current of the river, we relax and enjoy the profound sense of peace and tranquility.

Day 9
We travel via the capital city of Lusaka and install our camp near the Luangwa River.

Day 10 & 11
The ecologically unspoilt South Luangwa National Park is undoubtedly one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa. The 9050 square kilometre park has elephant, hippo, buffalo, and numerous species of antelope and predators. The bird life is a birdwatcher’s delight. During the rainy season (Dec – Mar) the park may become inaccessible.

Day 12 & 13
Lake Malawi, with its crystal clear waters, sandy beaches and beautiful bays, is surrounded by high rugged peaks and mountains. We set up our camp on the shores of the lake, swim, suntan and relax for two days.

Day 14 & 15:
An early start takes us to the 3000 m Mount Mulanje, which is one of the most impressive sights in Malawi. Unique forests of Mulanje cedar cover the slopes. We hike into the mountain, and return to our base camp in the late afternoon.

Day 16
We cross the Zambezi at Tete and enter Mozambique. Travel through the scenic eastern highland mountains with their many scattered traditional African villages.

Day 17 & 18
Our delightful campsite under the coconut palms near the wide deserted beaches allows us to swim during the day in the warm blue waters of the Indian Ocean.

Day 19 & 20
We cross the Tropic of Capricorn on our way to Inhambane, one of Mozambique’s oldest and most charming towns with its picturesque dhows and market, before reaching the beautiful beaches of Barra. Our camp next to the azure ocean is set amid sand dunes and palm groves, and offers many optional excursions including diving and snorkeling.

Day 21
The colourful and vibrant local markets, the social and economic hub of life in the towns and villages, provide the visitor with an insight into the richness of local culture. Our camp at Casa Lisa is situated north of Maputo, Mozambique’s capital.

Day 22 & 23
We travel to the famous wildlife sanctuary of the Kruger National Park, one of the oldest wildlife reserves in Africa where we spend our time exploring on early morning- and late afternoon safari-drives, observing numerous species of animals and birds. We relax in camp during mid-day.

Day 24
Return to Johannesburg in the afternoon.
